Flow Control at a Glance
Pressure Regulators are used to control the flow and pressure of media such as liquids or gases, by either reducing or increasing the desired inlet or outlet pressure; whilst flow control manages the way fluid moves through a system to improve consistency and reliability. Pressure control regulators maintain a specific pressure level, whereas flow control valves, such as orifice restrictors, are devices with an exact diameter hole through it that constricts a flow of media, typically gases and liquids.

Our orifice restrictors offer high quality ruby orifices. These are incorporated in our EBF fitting bodies and are available in 0.004” to 0.018”. These orifices are crafted from premium materials - 316 Stainless Steel, Nickel Plated Brass or Plain Brass offering exceptional durability and strength for secure long-lasting connections. Our regulator is a unique miniature non-relieving precision regulator. Offered in 1/8” BSPP Stainless Steel this component offers precision, reliable performance with low pressure droop and very low pressure hysteresis.

Things to consider when choosing flow control

Media Compatibility
The media that passes through the orifice needs to be compatible with the body materials – not just the orifice material itself but also any part of the component body that it comes into contact with (known as the “wetted” materials). The specification of all products denotes the “wetted” and “non-wetted” materials to aid you in your selection. Consider the compatibility of brass, nickel-plated brass and stainless steel.

Flow Rate
You must select the correct orifice size that will allow enough flow to pass through that which your system requires. Do you require a filter fitted before the orifice? This can prevent the very small orifice hole from being blocked or occluded by system debris.

Pressure Tolerance
The regulator needs to be rated above the max pressure level that your system can produce, Many design engineers build in a significant safety factor considerably above this level in case of pressure spikes for example.

Filtration Level
Many components used in any system have the level of contaminant size which the product is safe to use with (many component manufacturers will specify this e.g. solenoid valves, check valves etc). It may be tempting to have the lowest filtration available yet this could reduce the life of the orifice as it may become clogged more quickly than it should do. Remember that it should be the “lowest” filtration level required in the whole system that the filter is part of, not just the next component that comes after it.

How will you be connecting the orifice into your system – barbed connections for soft tubing, push in fittings for harder tubing, luers, threads – EoxMfg has many options available to cater for this requirement.
